StAMP offers regular opportunities for people of all ages to make music together in our purpose‑built facilities at the Laidlaw Music Centre in St Andrews. Our ensembles take part in public performances, special projects, and workshops with professional musicians.
All ensemble members are required to hold Music Centre membership, which covers the cost of weekly sessions. New participants are warmly invited to come along for a trial before signing up.

St Andrews Brass

Participants learn brass instruments in an ensemble setting, following a brass‑band style approach. The programme develops core musicianship and brass technique while working through a varied repertoire. Learning and playing together from the outset strengthens listening, coordination, and collaborative skills. All participants receive a brass instrument on loan to support regular practice at home.
Sessions: Mondays, 6pm-6.30pm Group 1, or 6.30pm-7.30pm Group 2 – 2026-2027 dates to follow.
Suitable for: P5 – P7 aged children. No previous experience of music is necessary.
Director: Densie Crighton-Ward
StAMP Children’s Choir

The choir offers primary‑aged children an enjoyable introduction to group singing. Through a varied repertoire, singers develop vocal technique, breath control, and good posture. Participation builds teamwork and confidence, and prepares children for concerts and performances. Members also learn how to follow musical direction and work effectively with a conductor.
Sessions: Tuesdays, 5pm-5.45pm – 2026-2027 dates to follow.
Suitable for: P3 – P7 aged children. No previous experience of singing is necessary.
Director: Claire Innes-Hopkins
StAMP Youth Orchestra

The Youth Orchestra is a friendly and flexible ensemble that introduces young people to the excitement of playing in an orchestra while developing their wider musical knowledge and experience. The group performs a broad range of repertoire — often chosen by the players themselves — including film music, contemporary works, and orchestral classics. Musicians are required to bring their own instrument.
Sessions: Wednesdays, 5.45pm-6.45pm – 2026-2027 dates to follow.
Suitable for: P6 – S6 aged children and young people who have been playing for at least one year and can read music, or who are approximately Grade 2 standard (if you take grades).
Director: Joanna Petrie
Rock, Pop & Tech Group

This group gives guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers, and keyboard players the chance to create and perform their own original music, learn covers, and develop the skills needed for programming electronic music. Members can play, record, and edit their work as they build confidence across a range of contemporary styles. Some equipment (such as drum kit or keyboard) can be provided, but participants should bring their own instruments where possible.
Sessions: Thursdays, 4.30pm-6pm – 2026-2027 dates to follow.
Suitable for: S1 – S6 with some experience of their instrument.
Director: Jonathan Kemp
StAFCO (St Andrews & Fife Community Orchestra)

StAFCO is a unique and inclusive music‑making experience that welcomes everyone — regardless of instrument or ability — to play in an orchestral setting. Each week, more than 100 musicians from the local, student, and youth communities come together in a relaxed, supportive environment to make music under the skilled baton of our conductor, Gillian Craig. The orchestra performs two to three concerts each year and collaborates with musicians from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for special coaching sessions and an annual concerto performance, offering members inspiring opportunities to learn, grow, and perform.
Sessions: Wednesdays, 7.30-9.30pm – 2026-2027 dates to follow.
Suitable for: Anyone who has an instrument and can read music.
Director: Ben Shute
